About JoyLab Counseling & Wellness
Hi there...
I'm Amber Nicholson and I believe that therapy is cool.

Wouldn't it be amazing if one day, people thought about going to see a counselor like they think about going to see a physical therapist or a chiropractor? Something is causing some pain? Something feels a bit off? Some work needs to be done? Let's get curious about it and investigate.
I believe in doing therapy differently.
Choosing to begin therapy is a big deal. Trust me, I have been there. That is why my goal at JoyLab is to make the experience feel as safe and comfortable as possible.

I believe that wounding doesn't occur in isolation. Neither does healing. My hope is to help foster a safe space where you feel comfortable exploring old wounds and new behaviors.

I am in no way a "sit-and-nod" therapist. We will talk. We will brainstorm. We will connect. You are the expert on you-- my role is to serve as a guide to examine old behaviors, beliefs, or patterns that may not be serving you anymore and look at how to create and invite in new ones.

The majority of individuals that find their way to my office, typically have some form of early child wounding, usually with a caregiver, usually with mom. Those early wounds create the basis for beliefs and behaviors that often don't serve us. This can look like anxiety, overwhelm, people-pleasing, burnout, lack of trust in ourselves, questioning who we "really are" and what we "really want", and a general feeling that we want MORE.
If this sounds familiar, I hope you will reach out! You can learn more about my specialty areas at the link below.

Specialties
I specialize in helping women heal from trauma that was experienced either in childhood or later in life, and the numerous things that often follow. For some individuals this looks like healing shame, anxiety, grief, difficulty with connection or attachment in relationships, struggles with intimacy or trust, compulsive behaviors, and a multitude of other things.

I believe healing occurs best in supported connection. I work to create a safe space where you feel comfortable examining beliefs and behaviors that may no longer serve you and begin the process of healing. I’ve been where you are. I know the struggles of feeling stuck and overwhelmed as well as the joy and light that can exist on the other side.

I take a collaborative approach to the counseling relationship and am in no way a "sit-and-nod" therapist! I believe fully that YOU are the expert on your life and my hope is to help guide your journey to healing and growth while promoting your autonomy and power of choice.
